Upgrading blog software

26 February 2008, 18:32

I’ll be upgrading the Textpattern software shortly to pick up some security fixes and general enhancements.

Downtime should be minimal.

Oops. I broke it.

29 January 2008, 08:51

And now a word from our sponsors.

Hello, this is your friendly site administrator.

As part of a system-wide upgrade, I managed to break the ability for visitors to get to this site, along with every other site hosted by Eco-Monkey World Domination Inc. Sorry about that. I played with some buttons I shouldn’t have. My Bad.

I figured I had better explain why the site was inaccessible for a day and provide a chance for folks to comment (if they want) so I know it’s working again.

Thanks.

And now back to your regularly scheduled blog.

Communication

9 December 2007, 09:58

Several people have been asking me if I can provide email (rather than RSS) updates to my blog. I have clvrmnky working on a solution. Look for updates!

update

I’ve got everything working (I think) except for the preview on the comments. I’m going to try to sort that out over the next little while, but we may just have to live with it depending on how much time I have.

Let me know if you find any problems.

———-

Okay, as many of you have noticed, I screwed up the code for my blog. I was trying to install a cool template, and the template had an error. Anyway, I’m trying to fix it now, but the nature of textpattern (my new software) is that this fixing will all be live. So if the site looks really weird, that’s why.

About the banner

22 July 2007, 22:11

I created the banner in Photoshop Elements™, using primarily a photo I took in Kumasi in 2002. I like the photo because it represents the vibrant activity that is such a huge part of Kumasi. Representations of Africa can be tricky, but I’m pleased with this picture. Of course, plastering a me-focused heroic theme overtop kinda brings us right back to discussions of imperialism and exoticism, but what can I say? I like adventures. I started using the term with reference to my consistent ability to find ‘alternative routes’ on my ways to places. Who wants to be lost? Adventures are much more fun.

And this website is about me, hence the me-theme. Anthropological methods require a certain amount of self reflection, but academic writing is not a place to foreground one’s own experience of change, learning, and growth. I do not want to suggest that this website is about Ghana, rather, it is about my encounter with Ghana and with anthropology.
