Safely arrived

We are here!

The plane ride was, as it always is, uncomfortable and exhausting, but it was otherwise uneventful. I got a little grumpy around 2 am (on my internal clock) when I got up to go to the bathroom, and on my way back had to wait for 10 minutes while a “skyways” duty free transaction took place in the isle in front of me. On the second plane ride, one child was having severe panic attacks and crying to get off the plane. But on the plus side, the last movie they showed was the Simpsons movie, which is sufficiently humourous and easy to follow for your 10-12th hour in the air.

We are spending the day in Accra, and going to Kumasi tomorrow. clvrmnky is having a full-on first time experience, and it’s kind of fun to be the one who knows what’s going on. So far, the most difficult thing is sorting out the currency, because the Cedi has recently changed to the Ghanaian Cedi, which is an order of 10000 less. That is, 10000 Cedis is 1 Ghanaian Cedi. This wouldn’t be so so difficult, except a lot of things cost less (sometimes significantly so) than 1 Ghanaian Cedi, and the tendency is to convert by 1000 instead of 10000 (I have 90000 cedis left from my last trip, otherwise it wouldn’t be so problematic). Anyway, that will be ending in January, when the old currency expires.

So, for the rest of today, I think we are going to go to the National Museum, and then have an early night.

  1. First!

So, how are you blogging this? Using the laptop(s) or plugged into an Internet cafe? We need to know!

  3. Hi,
glad you’re there. I was thinking Clevermonkey must have jet lag on top of jet lag. Or perhaps they can cancel each other out. I have passed this site on once again to G&G, in hopes that they can keep up.

  4. Well, in Accra we were using an internet cafe, and then wireless at the hostel. But now we are in Kumasi, where the internet is not really as widely available. We’ve found a pretty good cafe, though, so I’ll hopefully be able to update pretty regularly.

I expected clvrmnky to be pretty exhausted, but I think it’s hit me harder. Either he’s got the equivalent of a callus on his internal clock, or the time in Germany has him more attuned to this timezone anyway.
