This site is primarily intended as an academic and travel blog, but it is in flux right now. I am a PhD student at the University of Toronto, and my research is focused on kinship and the state in Ghana. I returned from 17 months of fieldwork in Ghana in June, 2009, and I am currently involved in writing up my thesis. Yes, you can ask me how it’s going, I don’t mind.

As I side project to my thesis, I am writing up the process of writing on this blog. That project may get its own sub-section of the site, if I ever get around to reformatting things. I am trying to be honest about the process, even though it’s a bit scary to admit sometimes how hard it can be. I’m hoping that it will be of interest and help to others working on the same process.
